More Businesses Plan to Offer HDHPs
As the standards and practices outlined by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act begin to take effect, business owners everywhere are considering the ways they can keep their budgets low while simultaneously offering healthcare coverage to all their full-time employees. One way that firms are doing this is by offering high-deductible health plans (HDHPs) paired with health savings accounts (HSAs) as well as other consumer-directed healthcare plans (CDHPs).
Roughly 10 percent of large and midsize companies now offer HDHPs as their only option for healthcare coverage, and 44 percent of other comparable businesses are contemplating employing the same system sometime in the next three to five years, according to a report by Aon Hewitt. This makes up a very significant percentage of the 94 percent of employers who are committed to offering financially supportive health benefits to their workforce.
